The Cherkasy Eparchy has sent an appeal to the President, the state authorities of Ukraine, and the Cherkasy court. The Information and Education Department of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church is publishing that appeal in full.
The SBU has handed over suspicion to Metropolitan Longin of Bancheni. The bishop could be put on trial. What will happen to those hundreds of children who call him dad?
On May 22, 2023, Metropolitan Longin (Zhar) of Bancheni was summoned for questioning to the Chernivtsi Police Department. During the interrogation, the bishop was handed a suspicion which said that a criminal case under Article 161 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – for incitement of interfaith hatred – was opened against him. At the moment, the court is deciding on a preventive measure for him. However, the situation with Metropolitan Longin is more complicated than with any other bishop or even just a citizen of Ukraine. A visitor from Transcarpathia, the “chaplain” of the OCU Witcher, seized the Trinity Church of the UOC in Pereyaslav, Kyiv region.
On June 8, 2023, the "hieromonk" of the OCU Sofroniy, with the call sign Ved’mak (Witcher), took control of the Trinity Church of the UOC in Pereyaslav, Kyiv region. The UOJ was told about this by its source in the community.
It noted that the OCU activists, under the control of the Witcher, cut off the last locks on the Trinity Church and let members of the “commission” of the City Council inside. Read more
The raider seizure was led by deputy Chernievych, who personally transferred many UOC churches in the Khmelnytskyi region to the OCU.
On June 2, 2023, a group of individuals led by the Khmelnytskyi District Council deputy A. Chernievych and businessman Mykhailo Blonsky seized St. Nicholas’s Church of the UOC in Medzhybizh, Khmelnytskyi region,” reports the Telegram channel of the press service of the Khmelnytskyi eparchy of the UOC. Alexander Chernievich has organized a mass transfer of church communities in the Khmelnytskyi district from the UOC to the OCU.
Since April 2022, due to the efforts of local authorities, 16 churches of the UOC were transferred to the OCU in the Khmelnytskyi district. The head of the Khmelnytskyi District Council, Alexander Chernievich, reports about all the transfers on his Facebook page. Read more
